Do Elite Colleges Produce the Best-Paid Graduates?

I noticed this morning that Yahoo has posted a new article on their home page: Do Elite Colleges Product the Best-Paid Graduates?. The article ranks colleges in order of their average salaries coming out of school and their average salaries midway through a career. The findings are interesting because not all of the schools in the top 20 are Ivy League schools. Here are the top schools according to Pay Scale:

President Obama and Higher Education

On my way into work this morning I was listening to NPR and there was a discussion about President Obama and his request that every American receive at least one year of higher education training and / or 1 year of vocational or trade school training. This coincides with his goal of re-instating America as the leader and role model for higher education by the year 2012. I think that higher education is paramount to the success of America in the future, and its gonna take a lot of different methods to get there. Every American who wants to get additional higher education has a unique situation. Some prospective students are just graduating from high school and plan to attend their state college, university or community college. Other prospective students are older – single adults, married adults who may require other non-traditional forms of education such as online schools or “no-frills” education – classes that are offered at night or on weekends, intentionally without the extra social aspects of college life. Whatever the situation, I agree with President Obama that higher education is the key to a successful America in the future. Anything we can do to facilitate more Americans going to college will pay dividends for our country as a whole. Education regarding education is important so that underprivileged Americans know about the financial aid that is available to them in the way of grants, scholarships and federal funds that can support their college dreams.

College and University Choices

Over the weekend I have been working on a new web site: College State – a directory of colleges and universities across the United States. One thing I have realized is that there are a lot of colleges and universities in the United States. I have also realized that each one is unique – and provides unique experiences for its students. My advice to new students who are looking at colleges and universities is to prioritize what they want out of their college experience. For example, perhaps the most important priority for some students is to attend a top tier academic school like Harvard University, Stanford University or Yale University. For other students, the priority might be to find a college that is close to home, in which case the student could search for a college or university within his or her state. Perhaps a student might be looking for a college nearby the beach – like Pepperdine University. Regardless of which school you decide to attend, its always a good idea to look for grants and scholarships to help pay for college. The opportunity is out there, you just have to take advantage of all the programs that are offered. Good luck!
